Dora playing with blocks
An interesting conversation in Sunday church meeting.
Dora, my 3 years old daughter, likes to play outside. As a consequence her skin gets dark. Our church leader John liked it and he said:
“I heard that in Asia, some people actually use some kind of cream that suppose to make them look paler. And they use it everyday!”
He might expect laughs from us. But…well, a couple of British did.
We did not get it. “I use it a lot.” said my wife.
“Why?”, surprisingly asked John, “It makes you look paler.”
So I explained the Chinese saying “White skin covers over a multitude of uglinesses”.
“Really?” was what we get as a response. “People want to be what they are not. We think bronze is prettier.”
Anyway, Dora’s dark skin shows her healthiness and we are fine with it.
